A district and session court in Islamabad, Pakistan, on Thursday extended the interim bail of Bushra Bibi, the wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, in the Toshakhana case until September 12th.
Bushra Bibi appeared before the Additional Sessions Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra’s court with her lawyers Salman Safdar, Intezar Panjutha, and Naeem Panjutha.
During the court proceedings, the Investigation Officer (IO), who was also present in court, requested the judge to grant permission for the arrest of Bushra Bibi.
According to reports, the IO mentioned that the audio evidence had already been sent to the federal investigation agency for forensic analysis.
Bushra Bibi’s lawyer, Salman Safdar, complained to the court that the investigation officials summoned and detained her counsel for hours. He further stated, “My client has already clarified that the audio in question is not hers.”
The judge asked about the authenticity of the case, particularly regarding the involvement of forged receipts and the source of the audio. According to a report, he asked the IO to limit the scope of the investigation to avoid unnecessary delays.
The IO then appealed to the court to grant more time to match Bushra Bibi’s voice with the audio. Subsequently, the court adjourned the case until September 12th.
Bushra Bibi, the wife of Imran Khan, the Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), is accused of possessing gifts from the Toshakhana gifts, including a locket, chain, earrings, two rings, and a bracelet.
Additionally, she faces allegations of owning gold, diamonds, necklaces, earrings, and bracelet.
The Toshakhana case has become a prominent political issue in Pakistan, particularly after Imran Khan was declared ineligible for making false statements and declarations by the Election Commission of Pakistan.
Reportedly, the allegations in the Toshakhana case revolve around Imran Khan’s failure to disclose details about the gifts he received from the Toshakhana during his tenure as a Prime Minister. However, the special court ordered to keep Imran Khan in judicial remand in cipher case.
Meanwhile, Pakistani media reported that Bushra Bibi filed a petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday, seeking to restrain her potential arrest. In her petition, she has demanded information about all cases against her, including unknown FIRs, and claimed that keeping the registered cases confidential is illegal, unlawful, and a violation of fundamental rights.
In her plea, Imran Khan’s wife argued that after her husband was removed from the office of Prime Minister “illegally,” a campaign of political victimization was launched against her, her husband, and other family members by federal and provincial governments and law enforcement agencies. She alleged that several false and frivolous FIRs were registered against her and her husband under government directives, with wrongful intentions.
In her petition, she has asked the court to declare the actions of the authorities as unlawful and to prevent her arrest in any unknown cases or inquiries.
