A famous Sri Lankan YouTuber who made derogatory comments on the sacred tooth relic of Lord Buddha was on Friday sent to four-day police custody by Colombo court. He was arrested in Colombo. ‘Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic’ is a Buddhist temple located in Kandy. It is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy where the tooth relic of Lord Buddha is kept.
Sri Lankan police produced YouTuber Sipal Amarasinghe in court after which the Additional Magistrate of Colombo ordered his remand. Amarasinghe was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department on Thursday for his objectionable comments at the holiest site home to 74 per cent of Sri Lanka’s Buddhist population. The Police said in a statement that it was found that the suspect had committed the offense of desecrating a tooth relic and committing an act disrespectful to Buddhism.
