In the dense forests of Abujhmad along the Narayanpur-Kanker border, an intense clash erupted between Naxal insurgents and security personnel on Tuesday morning. The exchange of gunfire, which commenced around 6 am near the Maharashtra border in the Tekmeta region, saw at least seven Naxals, including two women, meeting their end. This skirmish marks the second major setback for the Naxalites within a mere 15-day timeframe.
The battleground was set as a combined team of the Special Task Force (STF) and District Reserve Guard (DRG) launched an anti-Naxal operation. With the Narayanpur Police encircling the Maoists in the rugged terrain of Tekameta within Abujmarh, tension gripped the region as the forces pressed forward in their relentless pursuit.
According to reports, authorities received intelligence about a significant presence of Naxal insurgents in the Tekameta forest area bordering Maharashtra. Acting swiftly on this information, security forces were deployed for a search operation late Monday night. Upon their arrival in the area on Tuesday morning, the Naxals initiated gunfire upon spotting them. In response, the security forces engaged in a firefight.
This year alone, 88 Naxalites have been eliminated in encounters with security forces in the Bastar region of the state, spanning seven districts, including Narayanpur and Kanker. On April 16, 29 Naxalites were also neutralized in an encounter in Kanker district.
Following the cessation of gunfire, authorities recovered the bodies of seven Naxalites, including two women, from the scene. Additionally, an AK-47 rifle and a cache of other weapons and explosives were seized. Despite this success, a comprehensive search operation in the area is still underway, and the identities of the deceased Naxalites are yet to be confirmed.
