The Kerala High Court on Thursday dismissed CPI(M) leader M Swaraj’s plea, who sought to annul the election of Congress leader and former Kerala minister K Babu from the Thrippunithura constituency in the 2021 assembly polls.
A single bench of Justice P G Ajithkumar dismissed Swaraj’s petition, wherein he alleged that Babu utilized religious symbols during his election campaigns to garner votes in his favor.
Swaraj’s petition accused Babu and other Congress workers of canvassing for votes invoking the name of Lord Ayyappa. The CPI(M) leader contended that this action tainted the election with corrupt practices, violating several provisions of The Representation of The People Act.
