An MP-MLA court in Sultanpur (Uttar Pradesh) has asked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to appear before it on July 26 in a defamation case.

Rahul Gandhi was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday but was unable to do so due to the ongoing parliamentary session. Gandhi serves as the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha.

Rahul’s lawyer, Kashi Prasad Shukla, who attended the court session, requested a new date for the hearing. In response, Judge Shubham Verma instructed Gandhi to make a personal appearance on July 26, Shukla stated.

In 2018, a defamation case was initiated against Rahul Gandhi for alleged objectionable remarks about Shah. BJP leader Vijay Mishra filed the complaint against Gandhi. Earlier this year, Gandhi paused his “Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra” in Amethi on February 20 and attended court, where he was granted bail.
