In a new development in the murder of Indore-based transport businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, a 23-year-old suspect, Anand Kurmi, was on Tuesday remanded to 7 days’ transit custody of the Meghalaya Police by a local court.

Kurmi, who had been detained a day earlier from Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district, was presented before the Indore district court, which granted the transit remand until June 16, according to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Dandotia.

3 Other Accused Already In Custody

Kurmi is the fourth person to be arrested in connection with the murder. On Monday, three other suspects — Raj Kushwaha, Vishal Chauhan, and Akash Rajput — had already been handed over to Meghalaya Police for a seven-day transit period.

“All 4 accused will now be taken to Meghalaya for further investigation,” Dandotia confirmed.

Police sources say the accused, aged between 20 & 25, have no prior criminal history as per local records.

Wife Turns Prime Accused After Surrender in Uttar Pradesh

What started as a missing persons case quickly escalated when Raghuvanshi’s wife, Sonam (25), surrendered at Nandganj police station in Ghazipur district, Uttar Pradesh. She was arrested after reportedly confessing her involvement in the killing.

Investigators allege that Sonam masterminded the murder plot, hiring contract killers to murder her husband during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, just days after their wedding in Indore.

According to police, Sonam was in a relationship with one of the accused, Raj Kushwaha, and allegedly planned the killing to be with him.

Sonam, whose maternal home is in Indore’s Govind Nagar Kharcha area, is involved in her family’s Sunmica sheet business, used in furniture. Police revealed that Kushwaha had worked as an accountant in the same business and had dropped out after Class 12.

May 11: Raja and Sonam tie the knot in Indore.

May 20: The couple leaves for their honeymoon in Meghalaya.

May 23: Both go missing.

June 2: Raja’s body is discovered in a gorge near a waterfall in Sohra (Cherrapunji), East Khasi Hills district.

The grim discovery exposed the alleged conspiracy that led to the young businessman’s death.

With all four male suspects now in the custody of Meghalaya Police, further questioning and evidence gathering are expected to unfold in the Northeast state. The investigation has uncovered a disturbing tale of betrayal, premeditated violence, and an alleged affair turned deadly.
