A special court today has rejected an application filed by the Narcotics Control Bureau to cancel the bail granted to Singh and her husband in a drugs case in 2020.
Last week, VV Patil, the special judge overseeing cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, dismissed the plea due to lack of merit. The detailed order was made available on Tuesday.
The couple was arrested in November 2020 after 86.5 grams of ganja (cannabis) was allegedly discovered in their residence. They were granted bail by a magistrate’s court upon submitting a bond of Rs 15,000 each.
In December of the same year, the NCB approached the special NDPS court seeking to cancel the bail, citing the prosecution’s lack of a hearing.
However, the court’s recent order stated that there were no allegations of the couple interfering with the administration of justice or violating their bail conditions. The judge concluded that there were no valid grounds for the cancellation of bail, as there was no evidence to support it.
According to investigators, Bharti Singh’s name came up during the interrogation of a drug peddler while the NCB was investigating alleged drug use in Bollywood following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June 2020.
