22 Yrs Later: Haryana Police Reunites Man with Family After Decades-Long Search

After an exhaustive eight-month investigation, a team of Haryana police successfully facilitated the reunion of a 29-year-old man with his family in Uttar Pradesh, more than two decades after his disappearance, an official disclosed.

A Journey Through the Unknown

Separated from his family at the tender age of seven, allegedly abducted and subsequently abandoned, Amit spent his formative years in various children’s homes across Delhi.

Rajesh Kumar, Assistant Sub-Inspector of Haryana Police’s Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU), spearheaded the investigation, culminating in Amit’s emotional reunion with his family after 22 years.

Amit’s relentless quest for his family bore fruit when he crossed paths with ASI Kumar a few months back in Delhi, coinciding with the officer’s visit related to a missing child case.

With only fragmented recollections of an oil mill in his village and a locale called “Bala Chowk,” ASI Kumar embarked on a meticulous quest to trace Amit’s roots.

Delving into the case, Kumar revealed that Amit’s parents had parted ways over two decades ago, subsequent to which he resided with his maternal grandfather in a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar. Eventually, his father retrieved Amit and relocated him to Saharanpur.

A Rollercoaster of Events

Tragedy struck when Amit, then seven years old, was allegedly abducted while running an errand to a nearby shop.

“At the age of 7, Amit remembers being taken away by someone, awakening on a train bound for Mumbai,” recounted Kumar.

“Sensing his north Indian origin upon his arrival in Mumbai, he was redirected to Delhi,” Kumar continued, narrating the twists in Amit’s life.

Lost in Delhi without any semblance of home, Amit was eventually spotted by local police and placed in a children’s home in Alipur. Subsequently shuffled between various facilities in Delhi and Ghaziabad, Amit found employment as he matured.

A Chance Encounter

Reflecting on the encounter, ASI Kumar recounted his meeting with Amit during his September 2023 visit to Delhi regarding a missing child case from Rewari, Haryana.

“Amit provided vague clues about his origins, mentioning certain chowks and describing village life,” the officer elaborated.

Gathering and dissecting every clue meticulously, Kumar eventually homed in on Amit’s village. Engaging with locals, Kumar discovered corroborative details, eventually leading to Amit’s maternal uncle in Muzaffarnagar, who directed them to Amit’s mother residing in Ghumawti village.

Joy of Reunion

The emotional reunion between Amit and his mother elicited tears of joy, marking the end of a two-decade-long separation. The family expressed profound gratitude to the police team for their tireless efforts.

ASI Kumar and his team have facilitated the reunion of 800 missing persons with their families over several years, underscoring their unwavering commitment to justice and reunification.
