2,206 Cases Filed for Violating Deepavali Firecracker Time Limits in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu’s police reported 2,206 cases for violating the Supreme Court’s 2-hour time limit for lighting firecrackers during the Deepavali festivities.

The breach of the fixed time frame (6 to 7 in the morning and 7 pm to 8 pm) resulted in cases against 2,246 individuals, according to a state police release.

Police arrested and subsequently released on bail a total of 2,095 people. Of the cases filed, the highest count, 568, came from Chennai. Deepavali celebrations took place on November 12, 2023.
