All India Muslim Mahapanchayat Defers

All India Muslim Mahapanchayat

The ‘All India Muslim Mahapanchayat,’ originally scheduled for Monday at the Ramlila ground in Delhi, has been “deferred” as the Delhi Police did not receive a “written assurance” from the organizers regarding the safe and smooth conduct of the event, according to an official statement.

On December 1, the city police informed the Delhi High Court that permission had been granted to Mission Save Constitution, an organization dedicated to safeguarding citizen rights, to hold the event at the Ramlila ground on December 18, subject to certain conditions for ensuring the safety and smooth conduct of the gathering.

A police officer stated, “We have not received any written assurance related to certain points to conduct the event; therefore, no-objection certificate (NOC) cannot be issued. Nobody approached us till Sunday night.”

In response, the organization, led by advocate Mehmood Pracha, stated that they have once again filed a petition before the court on the matter, and the hearing is scheduled for December 19.

The police, represented by advocate Arun Panwar, had requested assurances from the petitioners on specific points, including ensuring that the gathering does not significantly exceed the proposed 10,000 people to maintain the safe and smooth conduct of the event.

The city police also emphasized that the names and number of speakers, as conveyed to the authorities, should not exceed or change, and no speaker should make statements against Indian laws or engage in hate speech that could disturb public harmony, peace, and tranquility in the area.

While the Ramlila ground event is not taking place, the organizers announced a small gathering at the Aiwan-e-Ghalib auditorium near ITO on Monday.

Previously, Mission Save Constitution had mentioned in its plea that it aimed to initiate a series of events to strengthen the weaker sections of society, starting with minority communities and subsequently including Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes, with the objective of raising the voices of all oppressed communities at its meetings.
