Ten personnel from the Women and Child Development department have been implicated in an alleged Zilla Parishad anganwadi scam, as stated by a Nagpur Rural police official.
They stand accused of misappropriating over Rs 88 lakh designated for the enhancement of anganwadi facilities, the official stated.
“The irregularities purportedly occurred across various regions including Katol, Saoner, Umrer, Parseoni, Narkhed, Kalmeshwar, Ramtek, Bhivapur, Mouda, and Kuhi. The accused officials, in collusion with suppliers, allegedly submitted fraudulent bills and sidestepped procurement norms, resulting in an estimated loss of about Rs 88.57 lakh to the state treasury,” outlined a release by Nagpur Rural police.
The release further stated, “The Nagpur Zilla Parishad established a three-member committee to investigate the procurement malpractice within the Anganwadi upgradation scheme. The committee’s findings, exposing significant financial improprieties, prompted ZP authorities to initiate punitive measures against the implicated officials.”
Cases have been filed under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for offenses including cheating, criminal conspiracy, and others, as per the release.
