Bar Council Summons Lawyer Impersonating Magistrate to Dodge Traffic Violation

The Bar Council of Punjab & Haryana has summoned a lawyer, Prakash Singh, who falsely claimed to be a judicial magistrate when stopped by traffic police in Chandigarh. Singh must appear before the Council’s disciplinary committee in person or through a lawyer by May 23 to explain his actions.

The summons follows a viral video showing Singh refusing to show his license to a constable, claiming only a Sub Inspector could request it. He also falsely identified himself as a Judicial Magistrate First Class during the exchange. If Singh fails to attend the hearing, it will proceed ex-parte.

Singh has been charged by the Chandigarh Police under Sections 170, 186, and 419 of the Indian Penal Code for impersonating a public servant, obstructing a public servant in the discharge of duties, and cheating by personation, as per The Indian Express. Additionally, it was reported that Singh was arrested and fined for traffic violations.
