Bengal Court Awards Death Penalty To Man Who Stabbed His Girlfriend 42 Times

A fast-track court in West Bengal’s Berhampore has recently awarded a death sentence to a man after finding him guilty of murdering his girlfriend by stabbing her 42 times.

Berhampur’s third fast-track court additional and district sessions judge Santosh Kumar Pathak of Berhampore awarded the death penalty to Sushant Chowdhury (23), a resident of Malda district, who stabbed his girlfriend Sutpa Chowdhury (21), 42 times on May 2, 2022, after things went awry between the duo.

While speaking to the media about the conviction, government lawyer Bivas Chatterjee stated that the entire trial process of this case was completed in 9 months.

Further, he added that Judge Santosh Kumar Pathak convicted the accused after hearing the statements of all parties and examining the evidence.

The incident took place on May 2, 2022, when the victim Sutapa Chowdhury was returning to her college mess through Shahid Surya Sen Road in the Gorabazar area of Berhampore, Murshidabad, when she was stabbed 42 times by Sushant Chowdhury with a knife.

He also used a firearm, later found to be a toy gun, to scare away the locals.

Previously, on May 3, 2022 sushant was arrested, in Murshidabad’s Samsherganj area with the fake toy gun and the knife used in the crime.

Following the incident, Sushant was booked under several sections of the IPC, including section 302 (murder).

The police also filed the chargesheet in connection with the case in 75 days before the Berhampore court, which awarded the death sentence to Sushant.
