Leading Kannada film actor Darshan Thoogudeepa has been apprehended in connection with an alleged murder case, as per police sources on Tuesday.

The 47-year-old was detained from a hotel in Mysuru regarding the homicide of an individual identified as Renuka Swamy on June 9, which occurred within the jurisdiction of the Kamakshipalya police station, the sources stated.

Following the purported killing, the body of Swamy, who was employed with a pharmaceutical company and hailed from Chitradurga’s district headquarters town, was disposed of in a stormwater drain in Kamakshipalya.

Subsequent investigation resulted in the apprehension of several suspects, who divulged pertinent information, according to a police official.

Based on their disclosures, Darshan was detained, sources indicated.

Authorities are currently probing whether the actor played a direct role in the homicide or was part of a larger conspiracy, the sources added.

To ensure safety, police have enforced stringent security measures at Darshan’s residence in RR Nagar, Bengaluru.
