A couple in Bhopal has been sentenced to life imprisonment by  sessions court for the murder of their infant granddaughter. The court, presided over by Additional Session Judge Atul Saxena, convicted Puran Singh Ahirwar and Vidya Bai Ahirwar under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including sections 302, 120B, and 201. Additionally, a fine of Rs 1000 was imposed on both of them.

According to Public Prosecutor Sudhavijay Singh Bhadauria, the case came to light on September 28, 2020, when Gaurav Kurekar reported the discovery of an unidentified two-day-old infant’s body on the platform of the G-Sector Shiv Temple in Ayodhya Nagar. The police registered a complaint and launched an investigation. Through the investigation and post-mortem report, it was revealed that the infant had been murdered, sustaining multiple injuries from a sharp weapon. The body was then wrapped in a shawl and discarded near the temple platform in an attempt to conceal evidence.

Based on statements from witnesses at the scene, the police arrested and interrogated Puran Singh Ahirwar and Vidya Bai Ahirwar, who later confessed to the murder of their daughter Kajal’s child on the night of September 27, 2020. The police also recovered the weapons and other items used in the crime. Subsequently, a case was registered against the unidentified accused under IPC sections 302 and 201, and a thorough investigation was conducted. The charge sheet, supported by 20 witnesses, DNA reports, evidence, arguments, and documents, was presented before the court. After evaluating the prosecution’s case, the court found both accused guilty and handed down the appropriate sentences.
