Bihar Shocker: Woman Marries Niece, Social Media Erupts Over Rare ‘Same-Sex’ Union

In a shocking and controversial turn of events, a woman from Bihar’s Gopalganj district made headlines by marrying her own niece after a three-year secret romance.

Suman, a middle-aged woman, left her husband behind and eloped with her niece, Shobha, to tie the knot in a traditional Hindu ceremony.

The wedding, held in a local temple in Belwa village, was captured on video and quickly went viral on social media. The footage shows the aunt-niece duo exchanging garlands, with Suman lovingly tying a mangalsutra around Shobha’s neck.

They even performed the sacred ‘saat phere,’ symbolizing their commitment to each other for 7 lifetimes, a moment that has sparked both admiration and outrage.

When confronted about her bold decision, Suman didn’t hold back. “Shobha is the love of my life,” she declared. “The thought of losing her to someone else was unbearable, so we chose to leave everything behind and get married, no matter what society thinks.” Shobha echoed her sentiments, stating their happiness together is worth more than the judgments of others.

The couple didn’t just keep their marriage a secret—they announced it to the world by posting videos of their ceremony online, notifying their families in the process. The public reaction was instant and intense, with social media erupting into a heated debate. While some applauded the couple’s courage for following their hearts, others slammed the union as “unnatural” and a violation of “natural laws,” with critics even labeling it a sign of “Kalyug” (dark ages).

This extraordinary love story shines a spotlight on the ongoing struggles faced by LGBTQ+ individuals in India.

Despite the legal recognition of same-sex relationships, the path to acceptance remains riddled with deep-rooted social stigma.
