Brij Bhushan Singh Pushes For Early Hearing To Dismiss Sexual Harassment Case

Former Wrestling Federation of India Chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has submitted an application to the Delhi High Court, requesting an expedited hearing on his plea to dismiss sexual harassment proceedings initiated by female wrestlers.

The court is set to hear this application on October 18, 2024.

Recently, the Delhi High Court issued notices to both the state and police regarding Singh’s plea, scheduling the next hearing for January 13, 2025. Singh, a former Member of Parliament, is contesting the allegations against him.

In his new application, Singh noted that the prosecution’s evidence in the ongoing trial is progressing weekly, with the expectation that it may conclude by January. He stressed the urgency for an early hearing to address his request for dismissal of the sexual harassment case, citing the current pace of the trial as a crucial factor.

The application was filed by Advocate Rajiv Mohan, with support from Advocates Rehan Khan and Rishabh Bhati. Singh is challenging the ongoing proceedings related to the FIR filed by several women wrestlers, which alleges sexual harassment and outraging the modesty of women.

His petition seeks to quash the FIR, the chargesheet, and the trial court’s order regarding the framing of charges against him.

Previously, the trial court determined that there was sufficient evidence to proceed with charges of sexual harassment against Singh. The Delhi Police filed a chargesheet against him and his co-accused, Vinod Tomar, based on the complaints from the wrestlers.

As the legal battle unfolds, Singh is pushing for a timely resolution, underscoring the importance of addressing his plea swiftly. The developments in this case are being closely monitored, given the serious nature of the allegations and their implications for all parties involved.

The upcoming hearings will be pivotal in determining the course of the proceedings and Singh’s legal fate.
