CBI Arrests Bank Manager For Bribe In Govt Loan Scheme

Govt Loan Scheme

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday has apprehended two individuals in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district on charges of bribery related to the sanctioning of a loan under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) Scheme.

Those arrested are Priyanshu Tyagi, the Branch Manager of Prathma UP Gramin Bank’s Kotkadar Branch, and Madan Singh, a private individual.

The CBI initiated the case based on a complaint alleging that Tyagi demanded a bribe of Rs. 60,000 to approve a Rs. 6 lakh loan for the complainant under the PMEGP Scheme. Acting on this information, the CBI set up a sting operation. Both Tyagi and Singh were caught in the act, accepting an initial installment of Rs. 30,000 from the complainant.

Subsequent searches at the residences of the accused in Bijnor yielded various incriminating documents and items. The CBI stated, “CBI laid a trap and caught said accused (public servant) and his associate (private person) red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs.30,000 from the complainant.”

Both individuals are slated to appear before the Special Judge for CBI cases in Ghaziabad. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
