CBI Arrests Middleman Over Rs.3 Lakh Bribe For Assam CGST Inspector

CBI

The Central Bureau of Investigation has apprehended a middleman while accepting a bribe of Rs. 3 lakh on behalf of Rakesh Jangid, an Inspector with CGST in Tezpur, Assam.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Rakesh Jangid, Inspector, CGST, Tezpur, and Aniket Pareek, a middleman from Balipara, Assam.

The CBI registered a case on July 21, 2024, following a complaint that Inspector Jangid demanded Rs. 5 lakh from the complainant to ensure the smooth operation of his hardware store business. The complaint further alleged that the inspector coerced the complainant into paying Rs. 2 lakh on July 12, 2024, as part of the bribe.

The inspector then instructed the complainant to hand over the remaining Rs. 3 lakh to the middleman, Pareek. The CBI set a trap and caught Pareek red-handed while accepting the bribe on behalf of Inspector Jangid. Pareek was subsequently arrested and presented in court.

Searches at the residences of the accused in Balipara, Tezpur, Jaipur, and Churu led to the discovery of Rs. 9 lakh in unexplained cash from Pareek’s premises, along with other incriminating documents.

The investigation is ongoing.
