Centre Notifies Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad’s Appointment as Acting Chief Justice of Jharkhand HC

The Central Government has notified the appointment of Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad as the Acting Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court.

The notification stated that, in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, Judge of the Jharkhand High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court, effective from July 20, 2024, following the retirement of Chief Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi on July 19, 2024.

Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad was born on June 20, 1967. He holds an M.A. and an LLB. He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Jharkhand and took oath on September 26, 2014. He was transferred from the Jharkhand High Court and joined as a Judge of the Orissa High Court on March 12, 2015.

During his tenure at the Orissa High Court, he served as a member of various committees, including the Judicial Academy & Training, Computer Committee, e-Committee, Juvenile Justice Committee, Building Committee (High Court and Lower Court), Transfer Committee, Vehicle Committee, Research Assistant Appointment Committee, Family Court Counsellor Appointment Committee, and Class-IV Appointment Committee. He also served as Chairman of the High Power Committee at Utkal University (Law Faculty).

Upon his repatriation from the Orissa High Court, he took oath as a Judge of the High Court of Jharkhand on November 22, 2018.
