The Ministry of Law and Justice, on Tuesday, notified the reappointment of Justice Rajesh Sekhri as an additional judge of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court for a fresh term.
Minister of Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal took to social media to inform that, exercising the authority vested by the Constitution of India, the President of India, after consulting with the Chief Justice of India, has sanctioned a new term for Justice Rajesh Sekhri.
Additionally, Arjun Ram Meghwal assumed his role as Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Law and Justice in the newly constituted National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre.
Justice Sekhri initially assumed office as an Additional Judge of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court on July 27, 2022, following which he formally commenced his duties on July 29, 2022.
In May, the Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, recommended the reappointment of Justice Rajesh Sekhri as an additional judge of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court for a fresh term of one year, effective from July 29, 2024.
The Collegium acknowledged the earlier recommendation by the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court Collegium, made on April 23, stating the absence of a permanent judge vacancy against which Justice Sekhri could be considered.
Consequently, the Collegium resolved to propose the appointment of Justice Rajesh Sekhri as an additional judge of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh for a fresh term of one year, beginning July 29, 2024.
