Chandigarh District Court Evacuated After Bomb Blast Threat Call

Bomb Call, Chandigarh District Court

Chandigarh SSP Manisha Chowdhary stated that, “We received a call that an explosive device had been planted at the Chandigarh Court and would be blown up at 1 p.m. We’re trying to figure out who made the call. We did not receive a threat letter, but the Haryana Police Department may have received one.”

She also stated that efforts are being made to track down the source of the anonymous call.

“We have searched the area thoroughly and found a carry bag containing a bottle and a tiffin box,” SSP Manisha Chowdhary told the press about the recovery at the court complex.

“The entire complex has been evacuated, and all nearby public spaces, particularly parking lots and canteens, are being thoroughly investigated,” she added.

SSP also stated that an Army team would be arriving at the scene to examine the recovered items.

“Bomb squads from Haryana and Punjab, as well as Bomb Spider from Haryana, have already arrived on the scene. Army personnel from the Chandimandir cantonment will arrive shortly as well. We’re not sure if the items found were part of an explosive device. The same could be ascertained only after the Army personnel and bomb experts inspect the items,” she stated.

SSP Chowdhary further informed that Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh, the common capital of both states, are on red alert ahead of Republic Day, with routine searches taking place at checkpoints.
