The police have registered a case against cricketer Shanthakumaran Nair Sreesanth and two others based on a cheating complaint filed by a man in Kerala’s Kannur district.
The complainant, a Choonda resident named Sareesh Gopalan, accused Rajiv Kumar and Venkatesh Kini of taking Rs 18.70 lakh on various dates from April 25, 2019, claiming they would establish a sports academy in Kollur, Karnataka, where Sreesanth is a partner. Gopalan alleged that he invested the money after being offered a partnership in the academy.
The cricketer and the two others have been booked under IPC Section 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property).
