Chhattisgarh Tragedy: Mentally Unsound Man Allegedly Sacrifices Son, Arrested

Human Sacrifice

In Chhattisgarh’s tribal-dominated Balrampur district, police reported a suspected case of human sacrifice, wherein a “mentally unsound” man allegedly killed his four-year-old son by slitting his throat.

Family members of the man informed the police that he had claimed to be experiencing hallucinations and hearing voices instructing him to “sacrifice” someone.

Incident Details

The incident occurred on the intervening night of Saturday-Sunday in Mahuadih village under Shankargarh police station limits. Following the incident, the accused, identified as Kamlesh Nagesia (26), was apprehended, stated a police official.

After having dinner, the man, his wife, and their two children slept in a room of their house. Subsequently, the man woke up, went to the courtyard, and slaughtered a hen with a knife. He then brought his elder son, who was asleep, into the courtyard and allegedly slit his throat, resulting in his demise, the official elucidated.

Discovery & Confrontation

Upon discovering the absence of their child, the wife inquired about their son from her husband, who confessed to killing him as an act of sacrifice. The woman informed other family members and villagers, who then contacted the police.

The accused was arrested on charges of murder. “The accused is said to be of unsound mind and he had earlier informed his wife and other family members about his hallucinations and hearing voices instructing him to sacrifice someone,” the official remarked.

The official also disclosed that the accused had previously attempted to harm his mother, but his family members thwarted his efforts.

An ongoing investigation is being conducted into the case, the police concluded.
