Chinese National Dies in Bihar Jail After Alleged Suicide Attempt

A Chinese man accused of illegally entering India died on Tuesday after allegedly attempting suicide in a jail in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district, according to police officials.
Li Jiaqi, a resident of China’s Shandong province, was arrested on June 6 near Laxmi Chowk in the Brahmapura police station area for not having valid travel documents, including a visa. According to reports, he was carrying a map of China, a mobile phone, and currencies from China, Nepal, and India.
A case was filed under the Foreigners Act of 1946, and he was eventually imprisoned at the Amar Shaheed Khudiram Bose Central Prison, they added.
“On June 7, he was discovered injured and unconscious in the toilet of the prison hospital after attempting to cut his vital body parts with broken eyeglasses.

The jail authorities immediately transferred him to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) in Muzaffarpur, where he died from his injuries on Tuesday, according to a hospital statement.
