ATIQ KILLING: PLEA SEEKING PROBE BY INDEPENDENT COMMITTEE

— Court to hear the fresh petition filed by Advocate Vishal Tiwari seeking the constitution of an independent expert committee headed by a former apex court judge to probe the killings of gangster turned politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf

The plea also sought an inquiry into the 183 encounters that have taken place in Uttar Pradesh since 2017.

— Abhishek Banerjee’s lawyer Abhishek Singhvi complained to CJI that the judge in the Calcutta HC Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay hearing the scam gave interview to a news channel and spoke about the case, even criticised Abhishek Banerjee and asked how could this be allowed. SC to take a stand regarding any action against the HC judge and if he should recuse from the hearing

— Court to hear the PILs filed by Ashwini Upadhyaya challenging constitutional validity of Talaq-e-Bain, Talaq-e-Kinaya, Talaq-e-Hasan, Talaq-e-Ahasan.

RAM NAVMI VIOLENCE CASE

— Court to hear on the plea for a direction to West Bengal, Bihar, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Jharkhand and Telangana governments to assess the loss of properties and injuries suffered by people during the violence witnessed during ‘Ram Navami’ procession on March 30 and subsequently and pay them adequate compensation.

HATE SPEECH MATTER

— Court to contine hearing on the petition concerning the alleged hate speeches delivered at the various events.

PALGHAR LYNCHING

— Supreme Court to hear tomorrow the plea seeking a CBI or a court-monitored Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe in the incident that took place in 2020 in Palghar district in Maharashtra where two Sadhus were lynched.
