  • PLEA CHALLENGING KARNATAKA GOVT’S DECISION TO SCRAP 4% RESERVATION
  • Court to continue hearing on various pleas challenging the Karnataka government’s decision to scrap the four per cent reservation for Muslims in the state.
  • On the last date of hearing, the top court slammed Karnataka government for scrapping 4 per cent Muslim OBC quota two days before the announcement of Assembly elections in the state. However, the court has refused to stay quota scrapping order.
  • PLEAS CHALLENGING LAWS ON LOVE JIHAD
  • Court to hear pleas challenging controversial state laws passed by Uttar Pradesh and Freedom of Religion Act, 2018 in Uttarakhand that regulates religious conversions due to interfaith marriage.
  • The laws were enacted by the state governments of UP and Uttarakhand for punishing marriages solemnised pursuant to religious conversion. The UP ordinance which was promulgated in November 2020 prescribes jail terms ranging from one to five years for the ones convicted under the same and also imposes a fine of Rs 15,000/-.

  • Court to hear the petitions challenging the Electoral Bond Scheme on September 19. The petitions filed by NGO Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).
  • NCPCR CHALLENGES HC ORDER WHICH ALLOWED 16 YEAR OLD MUSLIM GIRL TO GET MARRIED
  • Court to hear plea by National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR)’s plea  challenging a recent judgement of the Punjab and Haryana High Court which held that a 16-year-old Muslim girl can enter into a valid marriage.

  • PLEA TO FRAME GUIDELINES FOR OTT CONTENT
  • Court to continue hearing a matter where it had directed the MeitY to take steps to enforce its rules on content creation with regard to the intermediaries such as social media and OTT platform, as notified in Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021 and make laws as it deemed appropriate.
