On Wednesday, in a special court session, a man named Sanu Mohan received a life imprisonment sentence for the murder of his daughter that occurred two years ago.
The verdict was delivered by Judge K Soman of the Ernakulam POCSO court, who found Sanu Mohan guilty of the murder of his 13-year-old daughter, Vaiga, in March 2021.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1.70 lakh on Mohan.
In addition to the life sentence, Mohan was handed a 28-year imprisonment term for various charges, including kidnapping, intoxication, and offenses under the Juvenile Justice Act.
The commencement of his life sentence is scheduled after the completion of the 28-year rigorous imprisonment.
Mohan, who was apprehended in Karnataka on April 18, 2021, admitted to the crime during the investigation.
He revealed that he had planned to take his own life after murdering his daughter.
The tragic incident unfolded on the night of March 20, 2021, when both Mohan and Vaiga went missing from their residence.
Prior to their disappearance, Mohan had sent his wife to a relative’s home.
Two days later, Vaiga’s lifeless body was discovered in the Muttar river near Manjummel, while Mohan had vanished from the scene.
He was arrested after a manhunt lasting over three weeks.
Mohan’s explanation to the police was rooted in his fear of leaving his daughter alone after his demise.
Although he initially intended to end both their lives, the second part of his plan did not come to fruition.
