The Mumbai police have initiated an investigation following a social media message indicating a “potential disruption” during the World Cup semi-final match between India and New Zealand scheduled in the city on Wednesday, according to an official statement.

The threat, posted on X on Tuesday, was directed at the Mumbai police’s official handle and included an image depicting a gun, hand grenades, and bullets, as stated by the official.

In response to the threat, the police are enforcing heightened security measures at the Wankhede stadium, where the match is set to commence at 2 pm on Wednesday, along with maintaining a strict vigil in the surrounding areas, as confirmed by the police official.

The Mumbai police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the matter, with the crime branch actively participating in the probe, he further added.
