DDA Issues Notice For Demolition Of Illegal Huts At Bhoomiheen Camp In Kalkaji Extension

DDA

The Delhi Development Authority on Monday issued a formal eviction notice to residents of Bhoomiheen Camp in South Delhi’s Kalkaji Extension, directing them to vacate their homes between June 8 & June 10, 2025, in compliance with a court-mandated demolition order.

The notice, issued as part of a crackdown on unauthorized constructions, warns that failure to vacate within the stipulated time will result in forced demolition. Residents have been cautioned to remove all personal belongings, as the DDA stated it “will not be held responsible for any damage or loss” during the demolition process.

The notice reads, “Any belongings left inside the huts during demolition will be removed, and the agency will not be held responsible for any damage or loss to personal property.”

Officials have also called for public cooperation and peaceful conduct during the exercise, as they prepare to clear the land of illegal encroachments.

Political Outrage

The notice sparked sharp criticism from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Party MP Sanjay Singh condemned the BJP-led Delhi administration, alleging that it was destroying decades-old homes of the underprivileged without adequate relief.

“You have suddenly destroyed the houses of people who have been living there for 50-60 years… BJP has become a curse for the poor… They are running bulldozers on people’s houses, shops, their jobs… we will expose them,” Singh stated, accusing the government of targeting Purvanchali migrants from UP and Bihar.

Delhi CM Responds

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta fired back at AAP leaders Sanjay Singh and Saurabh Bhardwaj, calling their visit to a similar demolition site at Madrasi Camp a “drama” orchestrated by an “autocratic party.” Gupta accused the AAP of politicizing the issue and misleading the people of Delhi.

Demolition At Madrasi Camp Sets Precedent

The DDA’s current drive follows a similar demolition operation on June 1, 2025, at Madrasi Camp in Jangpura, where 370 illegal encroachments along the Barapullah drain were removed. The action was taken to address severe flooding caused by the obstruction of water flow due to unauthorized structures.

Of those affected, 189 residents qualified for rehabilitation and were allotted alternative housing in Narela, while 181 residents were deemed ineligible for relocation.

As eviction deadlines approach for Bhoomiheen Camp, tensions continue to rise. With legal orders backing the demolitions and political parties trading blame, the coming days are expected to test both the resolve of the authorities and the resilience of the displaced.
