Deepak Yadav

Gurugram Police presented the key accused, 49-year-old Deepak Yadav, before a city court following his arrest in the brutal killing of his daughter, 25-year-old national-level tennis player and coach, Radhika Yadav.

The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the community, took place at Radhika’s tennis academy in Sector 57, Gurugram.

Shooting At Tennis Academy

According to Sandeep Kumar, the Police PRO for Gurugram, officers were alerted to gunfire near the academy and promptly rushed to the scene. Upon receiving the information, the Police reached the hospital and found that this was a 25-year-old girl named Radhika, a resident of Sector 57. The police later reached her home and discovered that she was a Tennis player and ran a Tennis academy,” he stated. It was at the academy premises that the police recovered Radhika’s body, bearing multiple gunshot wounds.

Father’s Motive & Confession

Initial investigative findings suggest a bitter family dispute over Radhika’s professional pursuits. The PRO elaborated:

“Her father shot her dead. He has been arrested by the Police and, upon questioning, he confessed to the crime. The accused, Deepak, is around 49 years old. In a prima facie investigation, it has been found that the deceased ran a Tennis academy, due to which her father was upset. He had told her several times not to run the academy. He shot her dead over this. The deceased was a national-level player. The licensed weapon used to commit the crime has been seized. Further investigation is being done.”

Further details from Deepak’s confession reveal that he felt humiliated by dependence on his daughter’s earnings and repeatedly demanded she close the academy. During questioning, Deepak admitted he had been “taunted for depending on his daughter’s earnings” and could no longer tolerate the shame he claimed to feel.

Weapon & Evidence Seized

Police teams on site recovered a licensed revolver, which Deepak admitted using to fire three shots at Radhika. “The father has confessed to the crime. The deceased was shot three times. Police teams have visited the spot. The reason behind the crime is that the deceased, Radhika, ran a tennis academy, and her father was against it,” the PRO confirmed. Ballistics experts have seized the weapon and are conducting further forensic analysis.

Victim’s Profile & Public Reaction

Radhika Yadav was not only a respected coach but also a celebrated national-level player who had trained many young athletes in Gurugram. Colleagues and students have described her as dedicated, compassionate, and passionate about expanding access to tennis in the community. News of her death has prompted widespread grief and condemnation, with local sports associations demanding swift justice and additional support for athletes facing familial or societal pressures.

In a surprising twist, police are also examining a music video in which Radhika had appeared. Sources indicate that Deepak had instructed her to remove the video from her social media accounts, suggesting he viewed her public visibility and financial independence as an affront. Investigators are reviewing digital evidence to determine whether this video played any role in escalating tensions.

Next Steps

Deepak Yadav remains in custody as the investigation continues. The Gurugram Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) for murder and are gathering witness statements from academy staff and neighbors. They are also scrutinizing CCTV footage from the surrounding area to reconstruct the events leading up to the shooting.

The case will proceed under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, and additional charges may be added pending further evidence. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward as the community seeks answers and closure following this tragic incident.
