Delhi CM Attack Case
A day after Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked outside her residence in Shalimar Bagh, police have registered a case under Section 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (Attempt to Murder – punishable with 10 years’ imprisonment and fine) at Civil Lines police station.
The accused, identified as Rajesh from Rajkot, Gujarat, has been taken into custody and is being interrogated by the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the Special Cell.
According to Delhi Police, Rajesh arrived in the capital on Tuesday morning by train from Rajkot and checked into Gujarati Bhavan in Civil Lines. Investigators revealed that he was in contact with a friend in Gujarat, telling him over the phone that he had reached the Chief Minister’s residence in Shalimar Bagh.
Police are now seeking his custodial remand to probe deeper into possible motives and links behind the incident.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) has described the attack as a “cowardly conspiracy,” pointing to CCTV footage recovered from the CM’s residence.
“The footage shows the attacker conducting a recce of the premises at least 24 hours before the incident, recording videos of the area, and then attempting the assault in a planned manner,” the CMO said in its statement.
The video evidence has been handed over to the police, who are investigating the conspiracy from “all possible angles.”
Officials confirmed that the attack was not a spontaneous act but part of a well-thought-out plan. With intelligence agencies now involved, investigators are examining whether Rajesh acted alone or had support from a larger network.
Police have assured that an intensive investigation is underway, and further details will be made public once the preliminary probe is complete.
