A Delhi court has recently taken cognizance of a chargesheet filed by the Delhi Police in a sexual harassment case lodged by female wrestlers against BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
The court has summoned Singh and Vinod Tomar, the suspended assistant secretary of WFI, to appear before it on July 18.
The allegations of sexual harassment were made by 6 female wrestlers, leading to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) by the police.
On June 15, 2023, the police filed a chargesheet against Singh under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including outraging modesty, sexually colored remarks, stalking, and criminal intimidation.
Earlier, the wrestlers protested the authorities’ inaction regarding the sexual harassment allegations against Singh.
They had also moved the Supreme Court for the registration of an FIR against Singh.
The Delhi Police later informed the Supreme Court that an FIR had been registered and that the investigation was ongoing.
Furthermore, a minor wrestler had also accused Singh of misconduct. However, she later withdrew her complaint, and the Delhi Police filed a cancellation report in that particular case.
