Delhi Excise Policy: AAP Leader Manish Sisodia Meets Ailing Wife

Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, arrested in the Delhi Liquor policy case on March 9, has come out of Tihar jail for six hours on Saturday to visit his ailing wife, Seema Sisodia.

As permitted by the Rouse Avenue court on Friday, the Delhi Police brought the former Deputy Chief Minister to meet his wife. Sisodia is meeting his wife at AB 17 Mathura Road, the location presently officially designated to Delhi Minister Atishi, which was previously allotted to Sisodia.

The police are strictly limiting additional visitors, and a substantial police presence is evident even within his residence. Seeking permission from the court for a five-day visit, Sisodia was granted the opportunity by Special judge M K Nagpal to meet his ailing wife at home between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. under police custody.

Despite the dismissal of Sisodia’s bail petition by the Supreme Court, earlier bail applications met rejection from the High Court and the trial court. However, the High Court, in June, granted him permission to meet his wife while in custody.

Arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the liquor policy case on March 9 after being previously arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on February 26, Sisodia remains entangled in legal proceedings.

Simultaneously, the court extended the judicial custody of MP Sanjay Singh in the Delhi Excise policy money laundering case until November 24, 2023. Additionally, the court permitted the production of Sanjay Singh before the CJM Court at Amritsar, Punjab in a Defamation case on November 18, 2023. The court directed the jail authorities to ensure his safe transportation to and from Punjab, taking into account his health and changing weather conditions.

The Punjab court had issued a production warrant for Sanjay Singh in a defamation case filed by Bikramjeet Singh Majithia. Advocate Farrukh Khan, counsel for Sanjay Singh, filed two consent letters related to development work, which were approved by the court.
