Delhi Police Detain 13-Year-Old for Hoax Bomb Threat to IGI Airport

The Delhi Police detained a 13-year-old boy for reportedly sending an email to IGI Airport falsely stating a bomb was on a Dubai-bound flight.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI Airport) Usha Rangnani stated that the boy sent the email “just for fun” after being influenced by news of another teenager making a hoax bomb threat call recently.

The incident occurred on Monday when a complaint regarding a bomb threat on a Dubai-bound flight on June 18 was filed, DCP Rangnani said. “An FIR was lodged based on the complaint, and an investigation was initiated. All guidelines, protocols, and SOPs were followed to ensure passenger safety and security,” she added. “The airport was placed on high alert, and an emergency was declared.”

However, during the investigation, it was determined that the email was a hoax, Rangnani explained. “It was found that the email ID was deleted immediately after sending the email. The email was traced to Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand,” she noted.

Following this discovery, a team was dispatched, and the boy was apprehended for sending the hoax email, Rangnani confirmed.

“The boy informed the police team that his parents had provided him with a mobile phone for study purposes, through which he sent the email and subsequently deleted his ID. He did not inform his parents out of fear. He has been apprehended and handed over to his parents,” she concluded.
