Police in Maharashtra’s Thane district have filed a case against the director of a private ashram for allegedly burning a two-and-a-half-year-old girl.
The incident, which took place between May and July, was discovered when the child’s grandmother visited her at the shelter, run by the accused, Datta Gaisamudhre.
The grandmother noticed burn marks on the girl’s abdomen, back, behind her ears, and near her eyes. The child’s parents are beggars, according to officials.
Following the grandmother’s complaint, the child was taken to a government hospital, where doctors confirmed she had been branded with a hot object.
The Bhoiwada police have charged Gaisamudhre under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) section 118(1) for causing grievous hurt by dangerous means and under the Juvenile Justice Act, according to Senior Inspector Ajay Afle.
