Disproportionate Assets Case: Police Files FIR against Ex-Corporator & Family

Disproportionate Assets Case

An FIR has been lodged against a former corporator and four members of his family in Thane district, Maharashtra, over allegations of possessing assets worth Rs 2.14 crore disproportionate to their known sources of income, as stated by the ACB on Tuesday.

The Thane Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) conducted an inquiry into the income of the 64-year-old man during his tenure as a corporator of the Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Corporation from 1985 to October 2021.

According to Thane ACB inspector Swapnil Juikar, it was discovered that the man and his family members had amassed unexplained wealth totaling Rs 2,14,33,734.

The ACB suspects that the former corporator and his family exploited his position to acquire these assets through illicit means.

On Monday, the Bhiwandi Town Police filed an FIR against the former corporator, his wife and three children under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
