The Directorate of Enforcement in Jalandhar on Friday has filed a Prosecution Complaint before the Hon’ble Special Court (PMLA) in Jalandhar against Sakatar Singh, his brother Makhan Singh, and their family members in connection with a drug trafficking case.
According to the ED, the accused individuals acquired properties using proceeds from illegal narcotics trade.
The ED’s statement read, “The Directorate of Enforcement, Jalandhar has filed a Prosecution Complaint before the Hon’ble Special Court (PMLA), Jalandhar against Sakatar Singh @Laddi, his brother Makhan Singh, and their family members in a drug trafficking case. The accused amassed properties through illegal narcotic dealings. The Hon’ble Court took cognizance of the PC on July 17, 2024.”
The investigation was initiated based on FIRs filed by the Punjab Police and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). On February 3, 2023, the ED conducted searches at 10 locations across villages Sheron and Nausheran Pannuan in Tehsil Nausheran Pannuan and village Bugha in Tehsil Tarn Taran.
Previously, on July 12, 2024, the ED had provisionally attached immovable properties, bank balances, and cash totaling Rs. 3.91 crore under the PMLA, 2002. Sakatar Singh @Laddi was arrested on July 4, 2024, under the same act and is currently in judicial custody.
The investigation is ongoing.
