ECI Organizes 2-Day Conference to Assess Readiness for 2024 Lok Sabha Elections

Lok Sabha Elections

The Election Commission of India (ECI) began a two-day Conference on Thursday with the Chief Electoral Officers of all States and Union Territories to review preparedness for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, just a few months away.

The conference commenced in New Delhi at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) and is set to discuss the readiness for the scheduled General Elections in 2024.

Led by the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), the full Commission, along with senior EC HQ officials and CEOs, is actively participating in the meeting. The Election Commission released a statement, stating, “A two-day Conference of Chief Electoral Officers of all States/UTs began in New Delhi this morning. The meeting, being held at IIIDEM, is reviewing preparedness for General Elections 2024. The full Commission, led by the CEC, senior EC HQ officials and CEOs are participating.”

In the 2019 general elections, the BJP made history by securing a record 303 seats out of 542, while the Congress managed only 52 seats. Narendra Modi, the first non-Congress full majority Prime Minister to be re-elected, achieved this with a stronger majority.

As the 2024 Lok Sabha elections approach in just six months, political parties have already launched campaign plans to connect with voters. Amidst discussions between the INDIA partners for a seat-sharing agreement, BJP national president JP Nadda arrived in Guwahati on Tuesday to preside over key party meetings in the state. However, seat-sharing for the Lok Sabha elections remains a significant point of contention within the INDIA bloc.

The allocation of seats for the general elections holds particular importance for the Congress, especially after facing significant defeats in the assembly elections in the heartland states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan.
