In Madhya Pradesh’s Ashok Nagar district, an elderly Dalit couple allegedly faced assault and were compelled to wear garlands made of shoes, as informed by the police.
The incident, which occurred on 17th May (Friday) in Kilora village under Mungaoli police station limits, led to the registration of a case against 10 individuals who are currently evading arrest, stated an official.
Why the Humiliating Incident Happened?
According to Mungaoli police station in-charge Gabbar Singh Gurjar, the couple’s son was allegedly involved in an eve-teasing incident with the wife of one of the accused, prompting the Dalit family to leave the village. Recently, they returned to the village.
On the day of the incident, the accused purportedly tied the 65-year-old Dalit man and his 60-year-old wife to a pole, subjected them to physical assault, and adorned them with garlands made of shoes, recounted the official.
Elderly Woman Filed Complaint
Following a complaint lodged by the victim woman, the police registered a case on Saturday against the 10 individuals under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 147 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly with a common objective), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 294 (obscene act), and 506 (criminal intimidation), along with provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, the official affirmed.
