Ex-BrahMoS Engineer Sentenced to Life for Spying for Pakistan’s ISI

A Nagpur court on Monday sentenced Nishant Agrawal, a former engineer at BrahMos Aerospace Pvt Ltd, to life imprisonment for spying for Pakistan’s ISI.

Agrawal, employed in the technical research section of BrahMos’ missile center, was arrested in 2018 in a joint operation by Military Intelligence and the Anti-Terrorism Squads of Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra for offences under the Official Secrets Act, Indian Penal Code, and the Information Technology Act.

Sessions judge MV Deshpande pronounced the judgment, concluding the trial that began on July 20, 2022. Agrawal was found guilty of leaking sensitive data to his handler in Pakistan and was previously granted bail by the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court in April 2023. He will now have to surrender to the prison authorities.
