The CBI officials on Monday has began questioning Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital (RGKMCH), and ex-medical superintendent Sanjay Vashisth as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial irregularities at the institution.
Ghosh, whose residence was searched the day before, arrived at the CBI office in Salt Lake with relevant documents. Vashisth, whose home was also raided, appeared at Nizam Palace for questioning. A forensic medicine professor was also summoned for the probe.
The CBI launched simultaneous searches at multiple locations, including the homes and offices of those involved in supplying materials for patient care. The investigation was prompted by a complaint from Akhtar Ali, former deputy superintendent of RGKMCH, accusing Ghosh and his associates of issuing unauthorized tenders for constructing food stalls, cafes, and other facilities without approval.
The investigation has already identified three traders who received these “illegal” tenders. This financial probe follows the recent tragic incident at RGKMCH, where a postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered, sparking nationwide outrage. The CBI is investigating both the killing and the financial irregularities as directed by the Calcutta High Court.
