Mumbai Police have filed a new case related to the shooting incident outside actor Salman Khan’s residence in April, resulting in the arrest of a 25-year-old man from Rajasthan on charges of criminal intimidation, according to an official statement.
The accused, identified as Banwarilal Laturlal Gujar (25) from Bundi, Rajasthan, was brought to Mumbai where a court remanded him in police custody until June 18, 2024.
Gujar allegedly posted a video on his YouTube channel claiming association with “Lawrence Bishnoi, Goldy Brar, and other gang members,” and threatening Salman Khan‘s life for not having apologized yet, the official explained. The video was reportedly filmed on a Rajasthan highway and uploaded by the accused.
In view of the gravity of the matter, a team was dispatched to Rajasthan for investigation, leading to the apprehension of the accused, the official added. The case has been registered at a cyber police station in Mumbai.
“We are verifying whether Gujar has any prior criminal record. He has been arrested under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 506(2) (punishment for criminal intimidation), and provisions of the Information Technology (IT) Act. Further investigation is ongoing,” the official stated.
Two assailants on motorcycles fired multiple shots outside Salman Khan’s residence in Mumbai’s Bandra area during the early hours of April 14. A total of six individuals were arrested in connection with the incident. Anuj Thapan, one of the accused, reportedly died by suicide in police custody on May 1.
In a separate incident, Navi Mumbai Police detained five individuals, including an alleged member of the Bishnoi and Goldy Brar gangs from Haryana, in connection with a plot to harm Salman Khan. Earlier reports suggested that four gang members had surveilled Khan’s farmhouse in Panvel, areas around his Bandra residence, and locations where he filmed movies.
Currently, Lawrence Bishnoi is incarcerated at Sabarmati Central Prison in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, in connection with another case. Mumbai Police intend to request his custody through legal proceedings, while his brother Anmol, believed to be in Canada, is wanted in connection with the shooting incident.
