An FIR has been filed on Friday at Thane City police station against businessman Shyam Sundar Agarwal and others. A case has been filed against businessmen, on the basis of which an FIR was filed against former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh in 2021.
At that time, Agarwal alleged that two of his cops were extorting money from him at the behest of Singh.
The current FIR against Agarwal was filed by Vijaynath Mhatre, a Bhayandar resident.
Agarwal and four others have been charged under Sections 420 (cheating), 465 (fraud), 467 (forgery), 468 (forgery for cheating), 471 (using a genuine forged document), 34 (common intent), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 120-B. (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC.
Mhatre’s accusation is based on a Power of Attorney he granted to another accused in the case. This power of attorney is said to have been forged. Mhatre was allegedly forced to transfer his property to the accused.
Agarwal had previously filed a complaint against Singh, alleging that Police Inspector Nandkumar Gopale and Assistant Police Inspector Asha Korke had pressured, threatened, and extorted money from him.
The then- Maha Vikas Aghadi’s government in Maharashtra even formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into Agarwal’s complaints. Many of the senior officers named in Agarwal’s FIR were said to be close to Singh and were reassigned to side postings. Gopale and Korke were arrested in connection with the case, but were later duly instituted back into the service.
Even before Agarwal filed an FIR against Singh, he was charged with threatening a Mumbai-based businessman.
