Goa Crime Branch Arrests Man for Threatening Minister Subhash Phal Desai & Family

The Goa Crime Branch has apprehended a 32-year-old man for allegedly issuing threats to state social welfare minister Subhash Phal Desai and his family.

Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch) Rahul Gupta informed that the accused, Mithil Ulhas Desai, residing in Carmona, Sanguem taluka, South Goa district, verbally abused the minister and his family members via phone earlier in the day.

Threats against the State Minister

The police official stated that the accused used derogatory language and cautioned them of severe repercussions.

According to a complaint lodged by Subhash Desai, the accused demanded a payment of Rs 20 crore and threatened to implicate the minister in a murder case. Superintendent Gupta mentioned that incriminating messages were retrieved from the man’s mobile phone, which has been confiscated.

Complaint Filed

Acting upon the complaint, the police registered an FIR against the accused under IPC sections 384 (extortion), 388 (extortion by threat of accusation of an offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 506 (criminal intimidation).
