Gurugram Police Apprehends Officers for Alleged Extortion in Theft Case

The Gurugram Police has apprehended a head constable and placed a station house officer under suspension for allegedly extorting Rs 4 lakh from a man from Delhi who was detained in connection with a theft case, an official stated.

The two individuals were stationed at the Civil Lines Police Station.

According to police sources, Head Constable Kulwinder was accused of extorting Rs 4 lakh from a resident of Delhi on May 3.

Theft Case

In his complaint submitted to DCP West Karan Goel, the complainant, who is engaged in scrap trading, asserted that on April 24, HC Kulwinder arrested him in connection with a theft case and subsequently presented him before a court.

He alleged that following the court appearance, Kulwinder demanded Rs 4 lakh from him to refrain from subjecting him to remand or implicating him in another case.

On April 26, the complainant’s nephew handed over Rs 4 lakh to Kulwinder, as per police reports.

Allegations Valid

Following the complaint, an inquiry was conducted by ACP City Mukesh Kumar, who verified the allegations to be valid.

Kulwinder was charged under section 384 (extortion) of the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Civil Line Police Station and taken into custody.

“Corruption is not tolerated under any circumstances. We have not only apprehended the accused head constable but also suspended the SHO of the Civil Line Police Station along with the accused head constable. This action of Gurugram Police against corruption will continue,” stated ACP Crime Varun Dahiya.
