The Gurugram police apprehended a woman for purportedly strangling her 8-year-old son to death in a village, officials stated.
The motive behind the crime remains to be determined; however, suspicions suggest that the woman may have killed her son upon learning of her alleged illicit relationship with a man.
The accused woman, aged 28, has admitted to the murder of her son, which occurred in Sirhaul village in Gurugram, according to police sources.
On Monday afternoon, the police received information regarding the child’s demise from a private hospital. Upon arrival at the hospital, they encountered the deceased child’s parents, Arvind Kumar and his wife Poonam Devi.
Originating from Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh, the family, as per police reports, resides in Sirhaul. Arvind Kumar, employed as a labourer, lodged a complaint at Sector 18 police station, stating that he was notified by a neighbor about his son falling ill. Upon reaching their rented residence in Sirhaul, Kumar discovered a gathering at their home, with his wife in tears beside their unconscious son. Kumar, along with others, rushed the boy to a hospital, where medical professionals pronounced him deceased.
The complainant noted injury marks on his son’s neck and asserted that his son was murdered.
Subsequently, based on Kumar’s complaint, an FIR was lodged against unknown individuals under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code at Sector 18 police station on Monday, as per officials.
Following an investigation into the case, the police identified the child’s mother as the primary suspect and detained Devi on Tuesday.
“The accused woman has admitted to the murder of her son, but the exact motive behind the murder is yet to be disclosed,” stated ACP (Crime) Varun Dahiya. It is believed that the woman may have been engaged in an illicit relationship, which her son became aware of. However, the case is under investigation, and the woman is currently undergoing further questioning, added the ACP.
