The hearing of a defamation case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding his alleged comment linking the RSS to Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination has been deferred to August 3.
The hearing, initially set for Saturday, was delayed because the magistrate at the Bhiwandi court was on leave, according to Gandhi’s lawyer, Narayan Iyer.
This defamation case was initiated by Rajesh Kunte, a local member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Kunte filed the case over Rahul Gandhi’s alleged statement at a rally near Bhiwandi on March 6, 2014, where Gandhi said, “the RSS people killed (Mahatma) Gandhi.” Kunte claimed that this statement defamed the RSS by spreading false information.
Additionally, two days ago, the Bombay High Court reserved its decision on a petition filed by Rahul Gandhi challenging the admission of certain evidence by the Bhiwandi court, as reported by his lawyer.
