Section 144 has been imposed in Kanpur after the firing incident in Lucknow court premises wherein gangster Sanjeev alias Jeeva was shot ahead of a hearing.
Kanpur Additional Commissioner of Police Anand Prakash Tiwari stated that “Section 144 has been implemented in Kanpur city whose objective is to maintain law & order.”
Gangster Sanjeev was shot inside the court premises after being brought in for a hearing.
Later, the police confirmed that the gangster succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, Uttar Pradesh Special DG (law and order), Prashant Kumar, issued an order instructing all district superintendents of police to enhance security measures in district courts promptly.
This includes the installation of metal detectors and other necessary equipment within the court premises.
The order also emphasizes the need to review the security arrangements for the accused individuals appearing in the courts, strengthen intelligence and social media cells, and establish strong security measures in coordination with the District Judge/District Magistrate & the Bar Association.
Prashant Kumar stated in his order that in all the districts, strong security arrangements should be ensured in all the court premises by establishing coordination with the District Judge/District Magistrate and the office bearers of the Bar Association.”
Additionally, a 3-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising Mohit Agarwal, ADG Technical; Nilabja Chaudhary, Joint CP, Lucknow; and Praveen Kumar, Ayodhya IG, has been formed by the Chief Minister’s Office to investigate the incident.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rahul Raj, Lucknow, confirmed that Sanjeev Jeeva was shot and succumbed to his injuries, while two constables sustained injuries but are currently out of danger and receiving medical treatment.
