ISIS Radicalisation Case
The National Investigation Agency has filed a chargesheet against A Alfasith, a resident of Mayiladuthurai, Tamil Nadu, in a case related to ISIS-linked radicalisation and conspiracy.
The charges were submitted on Friday before the NIA Special Court in Poonamallee, Tamil Nadu, the agency said in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to the NIA, Alfasith was actively involved with a network of radicalised individuals promoting ISIS ideology. He was closely associated with known extremists Mohammed Ashik and Sathik Batcha, both of whom have been implicated in multiple terror-related cases in the state.
The investigation revealed that Alfasith and his associates used platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram to create groups—such as ‘Islamic State’ and ‘Black Flag Soldiers’—through which they shared ISIS propaganda materials, including videos, documents, and images. These were aimed at radicalising young Muslim boys, targeting hundreds with extremist content.
“Their objective was to promote ISIS ideology and disturb national unity, security, and communal harmony,” the NIA stated.
The agency also found that Alfasith had followed ISIS-linked Telegram channels, particularly one named ‘nashida33 (Al Wala Val Baro)’, from which he downloaded and circulated radical content.
He has been charged under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 13 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), relating to promoting terrorism and supporting a banned organisation.
While the chargesheet marks a major step in the case, the NIA said that investigations are still ongoing to expose the larger conspiracy and identify others involved in spreading ISIS influence in Tamil Nadu.
